Our Next Program

Excel for Genealogists, Stewart Blandón Traiman
Sunday, 9 November 2025, 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time, Zoom, free

Stewart loves spreadsheets! He uses spreadsheets at work every day as an IT manager and uses Microsoft Excel in genealogy quite frequently. Laying out all the data in Excel can help researchers see gaps in knowledge or correlations between data points. Breakthroughs can happen by visualizing data in spreadsheets. Stewart will show many examples of his use of spreadsheets to track newspaper clippings, a vital records catalog, ancestor addresses over time, and whole families over many censuses. Stewart will teach how to use Excel filters, sorting, color coding, calculations, and many other functions. Spreadsheets are fun!

Stewart Blandón Traiman is a professional genealogist, graduate of ProGen #49, public speaker, and blogger. As a teenager, he began building his genealogy skills by interviewing his great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother about their Nicaraguan roots. He has maintained the oral history of his family for decades. When he married, he took on the new adventure of researching his husband’s Ukrainian and Polish Jewish immigrant ancestors. He’s researched his children’s biological origins back to Colonial America and Western Europe. He has been a volunteer with the California Genealogical Society since 2014, serving six years on the Board of Directors, with five years as recording secretary. He published the monthly CGS eNews for eight years and continues to volunteer with CGS on the Digital Archive Committee. For more information, see SixGen.org.

Registering for this program will place you on the JGSO mailing list, and you will receive our newsletters. Each newsletter has instructions on how to unsubscribe.

All our programs feature closed captioning.

Program details and registration links for 2025 are on our Events page.
